Additional information requested for Echelon Noise Management Plan
THE Environmental Protection Agency has requested additional information from Echelon Clondalkin DC Services Limited following the submission of its Noise Management Plan.
On September 22, the data centre company, located in the Clondalkin Industrial Estate at Crag Terrace/Crag Avenue, submitted its Management Plan off the back of several noise complaints from locals.
The site sits within 500 metres of a residential area and has sparked concern for those living nearby.
The Environmental Protection Agency received “a number of complaints relating to noise in the vicinity of the site and has engaged directly with the complainants and the licensee regarding these.”
The EPA told The Echo that “revisions to the plan were required” and a revised Noise Management Plan is due for submission by October 29.
The plan must outline noise reduction and abatement measures, with reference to equipment giving rise to exceedances of noise limit values at noise-sensitive locations.
As clarified by the EPA, the Echelon Data Centre operates under an Industrial Emissions licence, issued by the EPA in June, for the combustion of fuels in installations with a total rated thermal input of 50 MW or more.
The licence limits the activities carried out at the installation and sets conditions and monitoring requirements to control the operations.
The complaints refer to a pattern of rapid, repeated start-up noises that could be heard by residents every five minutes or less, starting around midnight and repeating for hours well into the early morning.
