Adeleke smashes 50-second barrier in 400m

RHASIDAT Adeleke’s superb season continues after she smashed two more records over the weekend.

The Tallaght Athletic Club sprinter, who is based in Texas, lowered her own Irish 200m record in Gainsville, Florida, on Friday.

Competing at the Tom Jones Memorial meeting, the 20-year-old beat her previous Irish record of 22.52 seconds by clocking a stunning 22.34.

Less than 24 hours later, Adeleke also became the first Irish woman to break the 50-second barrier in the 400 metres, clocking 49.90 seconds in yet another impressive performance.

With the third-fastest time in University Texas history, Adeleke finished second in the 400m outdoor race behind NCAA champion, Britton Wilson.

As Adeleke continues her record-breaking speed, her sights are no doubt firmly set on the World Championships in Budapest this August.
