Another national record time for Adeleke
Tallaght's Rhasidat Adeleke lowered the Irish 200m record yet again

Another national record time for Adeleke

IT WAS another Irish senior record for Rhasidat Adeleke over the weekend as she surpassed her own national best in the 200m with a superb time of 22.59 at the Dual Meet in Texas.

Representing the University of Texas, the Tallaght sprinter turned in another stunning display that looked set to earn her victory in this outing, until she was caught on the line by Laila Owens.

While having to settle for the runners-up spot on this occasion, Adeleke will be well pleased at not only lowering the Irish record, but also securing World and European Championship qualification times for the coming year.

Adeleke, who struck double gold in the European Under 20 Championships over 100m and 200m last year, has been in sensational form again over the early months of 2022.

On top of the new 200m record she set last weekend, Adeleke has also chalked up new national indoor bests in both the 60m (7.17) and 200m (22.85) over previous weeks.

What’s more, the Irish international sprinter recorded the fastest time clocked by an Irish woman over 300m when she crossed the line in 36.87 at the Clemson Invite in South Carolina back in January.

That feat marked the first time an Irish female athlete had broken the 37-second barrier as she surpassed the previous national indoor best over that distance held by Phil Healy (who recorded 37.56 back in 2017) as well as the top Irish outdoor time of 37.07 held by Karen Shinkins.
