April Sports Star of the Month: Ellen Walshe

TEMPLEOGUE swimmer Ellen Walshe was among the top performers at last month’s Swim Ireland National Team Trials in Blanchardstown.

The 20-year-old managed to break the one-minute barrier in the 100m Butterfly for a second time that week, clocking a time of 59.73 that was just shy of the record of 59.54 she had set in early 2020.

Ellen Walshe played her part in the setting of a new Irish senior record by the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay team 1

Templeogue Swimming Club star Ellen Walshe served up some tremendous performances at both the National Team Trials in the NAC and the LEN European Acquatics Championships in Budapest

That performance was followed up with two National Senior Relay record-breaking swims at last week’s LEN European Aquatics Championships in Budapest.

She combined with Shane Ryan, Darragh Greene and Danielle Hill to complete the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay in a time of 3:49.08, subsequently bettering the previous record of 3:52.38 that had stood since 2017.

The Templeogue star later linked up with Hill, Mona McSharry and Victoria Catterson to smash the National Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay best.

While the previous record time of 4:12.29 had stood for three years, Walshe and the rest of the team comfortably bettered that by finishing in 4:02.93.
