Arrangements made to examine residents issues at the 30 acres

SOUTH Dublin County Council have confirmed that “arrangements are being made” to examine issues regarding the ‘30 acres’ in Tallaght that have concerned residents..

At a recent area committee meeting, the council responded to a question from councillor Charlie O’Connor in relation to a number of issues that were raised by Tymon North Resident’s group and Scoil Aonghusa.

Concerns about the River Poddle bridge

Some of issues regarding the green space, which is located on Greenhills Road, were related to the condition of the bridge across the River Poddle and the condition of the footpath to the rear of the school.

Cllr O’Connor told The Echo that the 30 acres in Bancroft is a “very important open space facility in the area” that is used for many different reasons by residents.

“I think they want the 30 acres to remain safe – safe from scramblers which has been an ongoing problem. There has also been a rat infestation which we have been dealing with.

“Our parks and open spaces should be a safe place for everybody, and if there are issues that are challenging safety and so on then we need to deal with them and that was precisely what my business at the meeting was about,” Cllr O’Connor added.

In their response, the council said: “Arrangements are being put in place to hold a meeting on site with these interested parties during the coming week to examine these issues jointly.”

The council also noted that measures sought previously by the Bancroft Residents Association such as installation of fencing and raising the height of fencing and gates in locations have been implemented in an attempt to prevent loitering and anti-social behaviour.

“Unfortunately, we do get reports of anti-social behaviour, and we have to keep monitoring those situations on behalf of residents who are concerned and that’s why I raised the issue,” Cllr O’Connor concluded.
