At least 79 sleep rough as temperatures plummet to below freezing

As temperatures plummeted last night, homeless charity and outreach group, Inner City Helping Homeless reported a total of 79 people sleeping rough on the streets of our capital.

As those staying in Apollo House begin to leave the buildign today, many remained on the streets last night in freezing conditions.

Inner City Helping Homeless was formed in November 2013 to combat the growing homeless crisis that was evident across the city of Dublin.

They currently operate a seven-day outreach service in Dublin City, coinciding with a mobile outreach unit.

The outreach support service operates nightly providing access to beds, sleeping bags, food or case management referral.

The group operate a 16-hour daily mobile outreach service, responding to rough sleeper reports within 15 minutes of a call.

This service is also operating 7 days per week.

Their day service operates case management alongside client referral also advocating on behalf of clients.

According to the group there were 66 men and 13 women sleeping rough across the city last night as temperatures dropped below freezing.
