Ballyboden Primary Care Centre closed due to detection of legionella

THE Ballyboden Primary Care Centre has been temporarily closed due to the detection of legionella bacteria within the building.

According to a statement issued by the HSE, legionella has been detected in a number of the centre’s outlets, points at which water comes out such as taps, showers, toilets.

When tiny droplets of water contaminated with legionella bacteria are inhaled, it can result in Legionnaires’ disease.

The HSE said: “Regrettably, due to the detection of legionella at a number of outlets in Ballyboden Primary Care Centre all clinic based appointments at the centre will pause with immediate effect.

“Appointments will be re-scheduled/delivered from other clinic sites.”

The HSE added: “Water cleaning is underway and water test sampling is on-going.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to service users.”

The Covid-19 test centre, located at Ballyboden, has also closed, with appointments available in Aston Quay, DCU, and Roebuck Road for people who meet the Public Health criteria for a PCR test.
