THE ORGANISERS of last Friday’s County Colours BBQ at Lucan Sarsfields in aid of Team James for Barretstown have raised over €3,000 as The Echo goes to press. Over 200 people turned out in their county finery for the ninth annual event.

There were 29 counties represented – the only ones missing were Wicklow, Fermanagh and Carlow.

The best of barbecue food was laid on for the event and all the guests enjoyed the fare.

After the food was devoured the guests sat down to a question and answer session with some GAA guests, including Michael O’Grady, Sean Clandillon, Shay Hurson and Padraig McGarrigle. This was followed by music from Tim and Pat.

Guest of honour was James Casserly (10) who has cerebral palsy which affects his core and lower limbs mostly. James will be completing the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon 26.2 (42.2km) this year while being pushed by Mark Lacey, raising funds for Barretstown.

Ray Barnes, one of the organisers of the County Colours BBQ, told The Echo that they were very happy with the event.

He said: “We hope to raise over €3,000, which is in excess of our initial target. There was a great turn-out with over 200 people turning up on the evening. The next project for James is when he will take part in the Dublin City Marathon in October.”
