THE annual Clondalkin Village Festival kicks off this weekend with a diverse range of live entertainment and activities – from Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19.

The festival is showcased to promote Clondalkin at its best – providing an opportunity for residents and visitors to meet and mingle with local businesses, clubs and organisations.

Festival Director Thyes Kavanagh said: “Over the weekend, there will be various events hosted by Tower’s GAA Club, Áras Chrónáin, and some local pubs. Check their websites for details.

“The big day out is on Sunday, June 19, when we pedestrianise Clondalkin Village between 2pm and 6pm. This is a day filled to the brim with fun events – 90 per cent of which are free. Our competition for street performers is back this year, and has generated huge interest from international performers.”

The main stage in the village has a packed programme of fantastic local talent, including a magic show, set dancing, martial arts, karate displays, dance performances and Zumba.

Mr Kavanagh continued: “Music acts include the return of Colm Gavin, who was enormously popular last year. Colm is promoting his new album A Voice for the Urban Darlings.

“Also, for the first time at Clondalkin Festival, we are delighted to have – from The Voice UK – the very talented Clondalkin native Lauren Lapsley-Browne, who is truly a star in the making.

“There will also be an exciting performance from the ever-popular Clondalkin Youth Band, who are rushing back to Clondalkin from an earlier engagement that day especially to be with us, and to close our festival in great style.”

The festival organising committee includes Clondalkin Chamber of Commerce, South Dublin County Council and An Garda Síochána, and the event is sponsored by Brian McElroy.

Stewards will be at the festival to assist with safety and directions.

Main Street will be closed from the junction at New Road and Tower Road from Tescos to the Round Tower – from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, June 19.
