Bazunu completes transfer to Manchester City

SHAMROCK Rovers have announced the completion of goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu’s transfer to Manchester City.

The Firhouse lad sparked a scramble for his services by a number of Premier League sides last season, with the defending champions winning the race.

Commenting on Bazunu’s transfer, Shamrock Rovers Sporting Director Stephen McPhail said "Gavin has completed the move earlier than we originally expected and we wish Gavin all the very best in his career development at City.

“Whilst we originally planned for Gavin to stay at Rovers until July and see out his education to complete his Leaving Certificate at our education partner Ashfield College, arrangements have been made to accomodate Gavin doing his studies and moving to Manchester.

“Working with Gavin, his family and the other parties involved we are happy that this is the best scenario for Gavin and for the football club” he added.

On the international front, Bazunu has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under 17 squad that will contest a double header friendly against Poland (February 13) and Belgium (February 15) in Spain.

These games will be part of the continued preparation by Colin O’Brien’s side for the UEFA Under-17 European Championships which will be held in Ireland in May.

Also included in the squad are Brandon Holt of St Patrick’s Athletic, Shamrock Rovers’ Toby Owens and former St Francis striker Conor Carty who now plays his club football with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
