Bench warrant issued for teenager who stole €15 from 89-year-old with dementia

A BENCH WARRANT was issued in Tallaght Court for a teenager who stole €15 from an 89-year-old woman with dementia while burgling her house.

The court had heard that Carmen Nicolae entered the woman’s house on the pretense of going to the toilet.

Nicolae, aged 19, with an address at Rosevale Court, Blakestown Road, Blanchardstown, had pleaded guity to burglary at an address at Lower Dodder Road, Rathfarnham, on April 16, 2016.

The court had heard that at 3.30pm on April 16 last, Nicolae knocked on the door of a house on Lower Dodder Road and an 89-year-old woman with dementia opened the door.

Nicolae asked if she could use the toilet.

A short time later, another woman who lived in the house heard a noise upstairs.

As she went up the stairs she met Nicolae who came down the stairs and left the house. It transpired that Nicolae had stolen €15 from the injured party’s handbag.

Nicolae was due before Judge John Coughlan for a probation report and for sentencing.

There was no appearance from Nicolae. Her solicitor Michael Hennessy, said he had not seenhis client.

Following an application from Sergeant Eithne Madden, Judge Coughlan issued a bench warrant for Nicolae’s arrest.
