Bishop boys Galvin-ized

BISHOP Galvin boys had plenty to celebrate after clinching the Sciath na nGearaltach trophy, beating St Patrick’s of Diswellstown 2-6 to 1-8.

The Templeogue boys raced into an early lead of 1-2 to 0-0, with Jack McCarthy scoring a crucial goal.

However St Patrick’s dusted themselves off, to square the match at 1-4 to 1-4 by the halftime break.

St Patrick’s took the lead early in the second half, but a rocket of a goal into the top corner by Tom Bassett put Galvin ahead for the first time in the second half.

And it remained that way until the final whistle as three late points from goalscorer McCarthy and Paddy Keighran ensured a narrow one-point win for the side.

This is the 14th Cumann na mBunscol title for the Templeogue school, and given recent successes in the competition, it would be no surprise if they were back in Croke Park this time next year.
