Boden clinch Division One Féile

A BLISTERING second-half performance from Ballyboden St Enda’s clinched the Division One Camogie Féile title as they beat Lucan Sarsfields 2-1 to 0-1 on Sunday.

Lorcan O’Toole Park hosted the low-scoring clash, but the scoreline did not truly reflect the brilliant tactical play from both sides throughout as Lucan failed to score in the second-half.

Sarsfields adopted a midfield diamond consisting of Clara Finn, Millie Hughes, Lucy Fox and Kellie O’Brien, with each playing their part in the turnover of possession and resulting powerful surges forward.

It was the 12th Lock outfit that got the scoring underway when they were awarded a free just outside the ’21 metre line, leaving Aoibheann Stokes only having to slot over the bar.

The dominant Finn, at centre-back, extinguished a series of Boden advances to keep them scoreless throughout the half while Heather McGrath held her own down the other end.

Boden hit the turbo button after the interval chalking up 2-1 to snatch victory from Lucan’s grasp.

Rachel Moloney scored the equalising point midway through the half when she cut in from the left-wing and stuck it over the blackspot from 20 metres.

Centre-forward Isabelle Morris then emerged from a ruck with the ball and went on a direct run at goal, flying past multiple defenders with her lighten-ing pace before hitting it low and hard to the net.

Following such a strong defensive performance, Lucan suddenly found themselves three down after two individual moments carved their defence open but they were not going to go down without a fight.

Kate Ryan in goal was key for Sarsfields on the break as she ignited multiple attacks from her precise puck outs with Aisling Coilféir and Megan O’Leary dragging their attempts on goal wide.

Stokes popped up with only minutes left and had a chance to restore parity, but her bobbling shot just trickled the wrong side of the post.

Boden’s star forward Morris drove at the Lucan backline and ultimately rattled Ryan’s net for the second and final time to ensure the cup went back to Firhouse.
