Brady’s Field bungalow knocked down after fire damage

THE bungalow on Brady’s Field has been knocked down after it was damaged by a fire in recent months.

The stand-alone bungalow on what is known locally as Brady’s Field, on the Old Bawn Road has been a fixture in the area for decades.

The property went on fire at the end of July and was significantly damaged.

Work began on the site this week to tear the building down and the bungalow has been completely removed with fencing erected around the site for safety.

It is a sad occasion for many to see the bungalow go as it had an interesting history and contained sentimental significance and prominence for many residents in the Tallaght area.

The rich history of the bungalow was previously reported in The Echo. The bungalow was originally built for Austin Muldoon, who previously lived in Old Mill House and owned the land where Millbrook Lawns is now located.

When this land was subject of a compulsory purchase order, Austin developed the bungalow adjacent to it. Following the death of his young wife and child, Austin moved into the bungalow with his sister-in-law Una in 1968 until he passed away the following year, aged 90.

Una then lived in the house after Austin’s passing until she moved into a nursing home and passed away in the early 1970’s.

The property was empty for several years after Una’s passing, but later came into the ownership of Dublin County Council and then South Dublin County Council, with some of the staff residing at the property at this time.

The bungalow is located on the site which is being developed to construct 12 new social houses for older persons. The project will consist of eight two-person, one-bedroom houses and four four-person, two-bedroom apartments.

The plans for the older persons housing development were given the green light in February 2020, and it is understood that the Part 8 approved scheme is currently at pre-tender design stage.
