Brave Adamstown fall just short of Minor Cup

DESPITE a superb performance in the decider, Adamstown Cricket Club’s Minor A team fell just short of lifting the Leinster Cup after they were edged out by Hills Minors at Margaret Town Cricket Ground on Saturday.

The Lucan outfit enjoyed a tremendous run en route to the final, winning all of their six games against Clontarf, Phoenix, Greystones, Merrion, Terenure and Leinster.

On the day of the final, Adamstown captain Shreyas Rajesh lost the toss and the Hills team elected to bat.

Their regular opening bowlers Dhruv Vinayak Komati and Shravon Biju started their bowling magic and kept the runs in check, bowling with great line and length.

The second spell of bowling started with Rajesh and Sidharth Biju serving up some unplayable inswing and googly combinations before spinners Owen Abbas and Sidharth Biju picked up the rhythm and took wickets helped by some impressive stumping by wicket keeper Nirbaan Singh.

The score in 14 overs was seven wickets for 74 runs with the rest of the wickets gone in short  intervals – 10 in 18 overs for 86 runs.

Sidharth Biju and Dhruv started the chase and after the fall of the two openers, the middle order batsman Aryan Adelkar and Jaivir Singh Oberoi took charge.

Despite the two competitors playing well to keep the score tight, Adamstown fell short of the prize, but coach Rajesh Seshan remained upbeat, saying “It was a great effort by the boys to reach the final. The team performed with great composure.

“The mood was a bit melancholic as they were so close to the victory line, but missed with couple of runs, but this is just the beginning. There will be more to come.”
