Schools qualify for BT Young Scientist Awards 2018 in RDS
A NUMBER of science projects from local schools have qualified for this year’s BT Young Scientist Awards 2018, covering topics as diverse as bat detection, suicide rates among transgender people and the effects of magnetic fields on plant growth.
Students from Phobailscoil Iosolde in Palmerstown have submitted seven qualifying projects, all of which are individual undertakings.

A project by a group of two students from The King’s Hospital in Palmerstown also qualified, as did two projects that were submitted by students from Coláiste Phádraig in Lucan.
Other Lucan schools who have qualified for the BT Young Scientist Awards 2018 include Kishoge Community College and Adamstown Community College, while Clondalkin’s Coláiste Chilliain has two projects in the running.
Terenure College, which saw one of their students being crowned BT Young Scientist of the Year 2017 last year, has also submitted a qualifying project devised by a group of two students.
No schools have qualified from Tallaght or Ballyfermot this year.
The awards will be held at this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2018 at the RDS which will take place across three days from January 10 to 13.
