He was accompanied in court by his mother.

The teenager, who has an address in Tallaght, had pleaded guilty to stealing newspapers worth €200 from a petrol station in Rathfarnham on September 23, 2017.

He had also pleaded not guilty to assaulting his mother at his home address on May 5, 2017.

He was before Judge Alan Mitchell for hearing on the assault case and for a probation report on the theft.

The court had heard that at 8.40am on September 23 last, the teenager and three other males approached the petrol station.

The teenager was later identified on cctv taking four bundles of newspapers from outside the petrol station.

A Garda later called to the teenager’s house and found the defendant and the three other males asleep.

The newspapers were found hidden in a lane behind the house.

The teenager’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, told Judge Mitchell that the hearing date for the assault had been previously vacated to a date in January.

Judge Mitchell remanded the teenager on continuing bail to the date in January for hearing on the assault case and for a further probation report on the guilty plea.
