Business Support Grants made available for companies based at industrial estates

A BRAND new suite of Business Support Grants has been announced by South Dublin County Council’s Local Enterprise Office for the industrial estates of South Dublin County.

The selection of funds has been developed for businesses based in industrial estates around the county, as a way for the council to directly encourage and support industrial estate occupiers to improve the investment potential of each estate and its units.

To promote the use of vacant units, two of the funds are specifically designed to support microenterprises utilising previously vacant units.

South Dublin County Council Chief Executive Danny McLoughlin said: “This new suite of funds are specifically designed to start a resurgence in the industrial estates of our county. In addition to funds directed at improving the visual appearance and marketability of the estates, we are offering two funds that specifically encourage new and existing microenterprise growth, while at the same time seeking to maximise the potential of existing premises and promote job creation.”

The Business Support Grant, Industrial Area Improvement Scheme, Individual Unit Support, Microenterprise Development Fund and Microenterprise Start-Up Support Grant, are all designed to address key issues such as derelict, obsolescent and vacant industrial estate units.

South Dublin County Mayor Sarah Holland welcomed a “proactive approach” to improve industrial estates, and said she looks forward to seeing the impact in “the improved appearance of many industrial areas and in increased employment and activity.”

Peter Byrne, CEO of South Dublin Chamber said: “With schemes aimed at supporting SMEs, micro-enterprise and at revitalising vacant and under-utilised industrial units, there really are a wide range of supports available to business.

“On behalf of the chamber, we look forward to working with the council in its promotion and encouraging take-up by businesses in our county.”
