Calls for help after kittens dumped in charity clothes bank in Tallaght

Dublin SPCA have called on the public for help in fostering cats after two kittens were found dumped inside a clothes bank in Tallaght.

The young cats, now named Sooty and Sweep, were found in the enclosed clothes bank in Sean Walsh Park and were lucky to be heard and rescued by a mother and daughter.

Posting via the Dublin SPCA Facebook page the charity said: “Once again as with every year we are having to report the cruel and callous mistreatment of kittens during kitten season.

“Today we collected two kittens that had been thrown into a clothes bank.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to five-year-old Ava and mum Jean who rescued kittens Sooty and Sweep at the Sean Walsh recycle bank Tallaght.”

The DSPCA went on to highlight other incidents involving the mistreatment of cats, including how two other kittens were thrown into a bin at a recycle plant.

They said: “So far this kitten season we have taken in just under one hundred and seventy kittens and will continue to take in a few hundred more before the season ends.

“We urgently appeal for more foster families as without you guys we cannot do the work we are doing so if you think you can help please email foster@dspca.ie thank you.”

Meanwhile, Clondalkin Animal Aid have also asked for the public’s help during kitten season as they have been inundated with reports of abandoned kittens.

Commenting via their Facebook page they said, “We’ve been inundated with sick kittens recently. It’s impossible for us to help without everyone’s help.

“We’ve appealed for help with fosters for kittens numerous times in the past couple weeks but not one person has offered to take in families of very young kittens that need to be kept together.”
