CANDLE Community Trust is to receive €300,000 for the redevelopment of its campus in Ballyfermot, according to Fine Gael Dublin South Central TD, Catherine Byrne.

The child centred service was established in 1978 to address the needs of at risk young people. Deputy Byrne said: “I am delighted that Candle Community Trust is to receive €300,000 for much needed redevelopment works.

“The centre is a vital resource for the community in Ballyfermot, offering a wide variety of courses to young people so that they can develop their skills and gain a qualification that will set them up for a better future.

“Candle has given incredible support and opportunity to young people who might have otherwise chosen the wrong path in life. I really admire the work they do and the commitment of their staff and volunteers.

“This investment in Candle Community Trust’s redevelopment has been made possible by the release of an additional €1.57 million in funding for youth justice initiatives under the Dormant Accounts Action Plan 2016.

“This funding is additional to monies already made available to the Department under the 2014 Action Plan.”
