Carey urges Davis team mates to embrace senior final occasion

WHILE Olwen Carey knows she and her Thomas Davis team mates will have to be at their very best in order to defy the odds and defeat Kilmacud Crokes in tomorrow’s Dublin Senior Ladies Football Championship decider, she has stressed that it’s an occasion they should also relish.

While the Kiltipper Road club has previously enjoyed success on the Dublin Junior and Intermediate stage, this will be the first time they line out in a Senior Ladies Championship showpiece, and Carey has urged her team mates to embrace the occasion when they walk out on to the Parnell Park pitch.

“They [Crokes] have been setting the standard this year and over the last few years” admitted Carey.

“We played them in the group stages and they were definitely the tough challenge and we know that we’ll definitely have to step it up from our last game.

“We’re going into this game knowing we have to keep that high intensity, but we also want to enjoy it.

“Most of us haven’t been in a final in ten years, so we want to make sure we’re enjoying the week.

“We know it’s going to be a tough contest, but we have to enjoy these days as well because a few of us might not get back there again” she said.

The Tallaght side secured their place in the decider following their 1-8 to 0-10 victory over Na Fianna at DCU last week and will now face off against a Kilmacud outfit that is strongly tipped to go all the way.
