Carpentry and joinery apprenticeships in the construction industry can carve out a career for Leaving Cert students

LEAVING Cert students are bombarded with academic options, but a rewarding career path in construction can often be overlooked.

Clondalkin firm John Sisk & Son (Holdings) Ltd have opened their 2016 recruitment campaign for carpentry and joinery apprentices, at their Wilton Works training centre, on Old Naas Road.

The John G Sisk Training Centre and joinery works was established over 40 years ago to provide training for young apprentices in carpentry and joinery.

Young school-leavers who can demonstrate the ability and aptitude to become fully fledged craftsmen, are selected for a challenging four-year apprenticeship, comprising periods of full-time study, practical workshop experience and exposure to the construction site environment

Senior sources at the company, say there is a definite career path in Sisk for carpenter and joinery apprentices.

Many of the company’s leading site agents and site managers have successfully completed their training at the centre.

The centre specialises in the production of high quality bespoke units to architectural specification in addition to doors and frames, fire-door sets, screens panels, stairs and moulded handrails.

Headquartered in Clondalkin, the firm have domestic operations in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the United Arab Emirates.

The training centre supplies a full range of joinery to Sisk construction projects including the recently completed National Convention Centre, Aviva Stadium and Bord Gáis Theatre.
