Centre of excellence plans are lodged by Horse Sport Ireland

HORSE Sport Ireland have submitted plans to create a sport horse “centre of excellence” at the existing Greenogue Equestrian Centre in Rathcoole.
Earlier this year, Horse Sport Ireland announced plans for new administrative headquarters and equestrian campus in Greenogue.

The new campus is to support performance enhancement across all of the high-performance disciplines - show jumping, dressage, eventing and para dressage.
Plans submitted with South Dublin County Council by Horse Sport Ireland is seeking additional facilities permitted under a previously permitted planning including a new 3,759 sq.m indoor sand arena.
Proposals also include the extension of the existing main outdoor jumping sand arena 800sq.m (resulting in a total of 4,000sq.m), the extension of the existing indoor sand arena by 250sq.m (resulting in a total of 1,625sq.m).
Plans also include a two storey training and administration facility (1,300sq.m), a veterinary shed, visitor toilets, lockers and storage, and a single storey building (673sq.m) to accommodate a laboratory for an assisted reproduction programme, and the provision of 50 car parking spaces.
In a statement announcing the plans earlier this year, Horse Sport Ireland said the new facility “builds upon the momentum created by the recent successes” across all sport disciplines and will help facilitate the “delivery of a large programme of world class educational and coaching programmes”.
At the time, Mary Lambkin Coyle, acting Chair of Horse Sport Ireland said a national training centre has been identified as a desirable goal ever since the foundation of Horse Sport Ireland.
Joe Reynolds, Acting CEO, said the move has been driven by the Strategic Plan 2019-2024 which proposed the establishment of a national training centre for the Irish equestrian industry in breeding, production, high performance sport, coaching and education.
