Judge David McHugh accepted jurisdiction for the case to be heard at Blanchardstown District Court.

He remanded the accused on continuing bail.

Mr Allen, aged 29, with an address at a hotel in Lucan is charged with demanding money with menaces from a named woman at an address at Castlegate Heath, Adamstown on October 6, 2020.

He is also charged with trespassing in a manner likely to cause fear and threatening to cause criminal damage to windows at the address.

Garda Sarah Cribbin said she charged the accused before the court sitting. The DPP directed summary trial of the case at district court level if the judge accepted jurisdiction.

She said it would be alleged the accused made unwanted demands for €150 in cash.

Judge McHugh asked for more information about the alleged demands. The garda said the alleged victim felt threatened by Mr Allen and it was alleged he threatened to “smash up the house” if she did not hand over the money.

It was alleged he was owed the cash from a prior debt. Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case after hearing the summary of evidence.

He adjourned it to April 29 for compliance with a disclosure order.
