Cian’s Picnic annual event in St Anne’s attracts over 100 people

OVER 100 people gathered in St Anne’s GAA Club in Bohernabreena on Saturday morning for the annual Cian’s Picnic event.

The club holds the annual event in memory of Cian Marren, who tragically died aged six years old after he was struck by a van breaking a red light in 2017.

Cian was from Ballycullen and participated in St Anne’s Macra – the club’s kindergarten – his family are active members of the club.

There were a variety of games at the picnic, including a large tug-of-war – which was Cian’s favourite game – and a variety of bubbles, as Cian loved bubbles.

St Anne’s PRO Adam Doran, who also runs the club’s Macra, fondly remembered Cian and said the picnic is held as a show of support for the Marrens and others in the club who’ve lost loved ones.

“Cian was a bubbly, fun and energetic kid,” Adam told The Echo. “He was never shy of a bit of mischief.

“St Anne’s is a really strong family club, and if someone in the club has lost someone, we rally around them.”

He added: “The picnic was great, it was a lot of fun. It also allowed time for people to get together and celebrate the lives of people that they’ve lost.

“We had a huge tug-of-war, and we had loads of bubbles as well and a big bubble machine, because Cian loved bubbles.

“It was a nice, warm, sunny day and there were lots of families there, some of them were old members of the club, and some were new.”

Cian’s Picnic took place after the club’s second Macra session at 11.30am on Saturday morning, and was described by the club as being “a lovely celebration of life and remembrance”.
