Citywest on target to raise €25k from walk

THE EIGHTH Annual Citywest Fun Walk took place on Thursday with over 550 people participating from the local business community, reports William O’Connor.
There was a great atmospshere at the start of the race with people coming out in force for the annual fundraiser with the money raised going to Barretstown which is also celebrating 25 years in operation.

The orgainsers challenge this year was to raise €25,000, with approx €22,673.90 raised at the time of going to print, and organisers calling on local companies to get in touch and make a donation to help reach their target.
The orgainsers got plenty of support from the community with the South Dublin County Sports Partnership also lending its support for the event.
“It was a wonderful success and thanks to the support of Citywest businesses who sponsored the event, companies who promoted the registration internally and an amazing committee who make it all possible,” said committee member Tom Fitzpatrick.
“The goody bags, Barretstown birthday cake, buns, ice cream, giant games all added to the fantastic atmosphere.
“Congratulations to the winning runners Phelim and Averil both from Eir. And to the very lucky winners who won prizes in the Mega Raffle.
“Thanks to everyone involved the committee are delighted to say we are well on the way to raising €25,000 in celebrating 25 years of Barretstown. A huge thank you to everyone involved,”.

Particiapants enjoyed the afternoon with pupils from Scoil Aoife along with teachers and parents also taking part.
The route which started at Lake Drive, made its way out on to Citywest Road before looping back around through the Kingswood Road to the finish line where it started in the middle of the Citywest Campus.
Barretstown was established in 1994 by Hollywood actor Paul Newman as a way to help sick children and their families deal with the emotional scars left behind from fighting serious illness.
Through running a series of camps and programmes, the organisation tries to provide as many activities as they can and rely on sponsors in Citywest to make the event happen year on year – and raise funds for children in need.
