COMMUNITY music initiatives across Ireland, including one from Tallaght, will receive funding under the newly established Non-Mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme.

The grant will provide funding for 29 organisations that focus on providing children and young people with music education.

Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton said: “Developing musical education is a great way to help children and young people to learn a new skill, gain confidence in themselves, and have a lot of fun while doing it.

“I hope that this initiative will help to further shape the landscape of music education in Ireland and provide support and encouragement for future talent.”

Citywise Education in Jobstown was awarded €10K from the €100K grant to buy instruments for music classes.

The centre focusses on developing the musical, STEM, and personal skills of disadvantaged youth from ages eight to 18, and currently has 400 active members.

Citywise currently has volunteer tutors for the music programme, but no instruments, and this grant will help secure the necessary materials to begin music classes.
