Clondalkin family to appear on TV3’s Doctor in the House

A CLONDALKIN family is appearing on TV3 show Doctor in the House tonight at 8pm.

The Haskins family, from St Bridgid’s Cottages, applied to the programme last year in an effort to improve their health and wellbeing.

After discovering they would be accepted, doctors monitored the family over the last three months, particularly with regard to mother Geraldine and her daughter Amanda.

Before signing up, charity shop worker Amanda tipped the scales at 24st, and was subjected to torrid online abuse.

“She has a terrible time with bullying online,” Geraldine told Echo.ie.

“The hospital wasn’t doing anything about her health so I decided to sign up for the show.

“It was only through the show that we got her diagnosis for diabetes.

“Professor Niall Moyna has been brilliant.

“He would go swimming with us, and tell us that is wasn’t any good paddling, that we had to put in the work!”

She added: “We got some hard truths, which were needed.

“There was a lot of back and forth meeting the doctors at the hospital. But it has been worthwhile.”

TV3’s medical experts on the show work with households around the country to support them to improve their long-term health.

Professor Niall Moyna, Dr Nina Byrnes and Dr Sinead Beirne use their expertise to identify potential health risks and design a personalised health and lifestyle plan for the households.

Doctor in the House airs tonight on TV3 at 8pm.
