Clondalkin ice-cream store forced to close after car crashes into shop front

A GELATO store in Clondalkin has been forced to shut “until further notice” after a car drove through the shop front last night causing extensive damage to the premises.

Gardai attended the scene of the incident at Mario and Luigi Gelato, located in Dutch Village in Clondalkin, Friday, January 7, when a car collided with the front of the premises.

In a post on Facebook, the store addressed the incident by saying their staff were left “shocked” when the car drove through the store front, causing serious damage to the whole shop.

“We would like to start by thanking our amazing staff for their strength and courage during this difficult time. We are so grateful and blessed they are all ok,” they said.

“As you are aware Mario and Luigi Gelato will be closed until further notice. Freak accidents happen but the main thing is no one got injured.”

The company also confirmed that their Templeogue branch will continue to trade as normal as well as their gelato mobile truck.

In a statement to The Echo this afternoon, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are investigating a road traffic collision that occurred in Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on Friday, 7th January 2022 at approximately 9.15pm.

“A car collided with the front of a business premises. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
