A CLONDALKIN man accused of indecently assaulting two females over a five-year period has appeared before Blanchardstown District Court.
The court heard that a psychiatric evaluation to see if the man is fit to plead will cost the state over €2,000.
The man, aged 66, who has an address in Clondalkin, is charged with two counts of indecently assaulting a named female at another address in Clondalkin on dates between January 1, 1982 and December 31, 1983, and on dates between January 1, 1983 and December 31, 1984.
He is also charged with four counts of indecently assaulting another female at the above address in Clondalkin all on dates between January 1, 1984 and June 30, 1987.
The man’s solicitor, Kelly Breen, told Judge David McHugh that she had received disclosure in the case and would need some time to go through.
She said there may be some issue with her clients fitness to plead and she asked the judge to certify for a psychiatric evaluation.
Judge McHugh asked Ms Breen how much the report would cost.
Ms Breen said it would cost in excess of €2,000.Judge McHugh said it was a significant amount of money for which the taxpayer would have to foot the bill.
He said he would like to hear the DPP’s position before ordering the report. He remanded the man on continuing bail for five weeks for mention and to hear the DPP on the issue.
