A MAN who allegedly threatened his partner with a hatchet and then ran out onto the street and threatened a witness was refused bail by Blanchardstown Court.

Judge David McHugh heard that Abdelamajid Oumessaoud is married to a 70-year-old woman who lives in Kill.

Blanch Courthouse 4

Oumessaoud, aged 40, with an address at Cherrywood Park, Clondalkin, is charged with assaulting a named female at the above address, breaching the peace, and possession of a hatchet at Cherrywood Park, Clondalkin, on February 9, 2017.

Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution, Garda Thomas Connolly told the court that he was objecting to bail due to the seriousness of the charges.

He said it will be alleged that Oumessaoud threatened his partner with a hatchet and then ran out onto the street waving the hatchet and threatened a witness.

Garda Connolly said Oumessaoud cannot stay with his partner and added that he is married to a 70-year-old woman in Kill who will not take him in.

He said Oumessaoud has no family.

He told Judge McHugh that if he was to grant bail he would still have to check out the address to see if they were willing to take the defendant.

Oumessaoud’s defence lawyer asked the judge to grant bail.

Judge McHugh refused bail and remanded Oumessaoud in custody for a week to Cloverhill District Court.
