Refusing bail, Judge David McHugh said he deemed Dorel Carpaci to be “a flight risk”.

Carpaci allegedly punched his partner, Mariana Ferar, in the face.

Ms Ferar was present in court and had swelling and bruising on her right cheek.

Carpaci, aged 33, with an address at Churchview, Green Park, Clondalkin, is charged with assaulting Ms Ferar causing her harm at the above address and breaching the peace at Green Park, Clondalkin, on February 8, 2017.

Garda Sean White told Judge David McHugh that he arrested Carpaci at 6.40pm the previous day and he added that Carpaci was later charged at 2.10am that morning. He said Carpaci made no response to the charges.

Garda White said he was objecting to bail due to the seriousness of the charges.

Garda White said it will be alleged that Carpaci assaulted his partner leaving her with swelling and brusing on her face and body.

Garda White said that Carpaci does not live in Ireland but lives in Germany.

Carpaci’s partner told Judge McHugh through an interpreter that Carpaci lives with his mother.

Carpaci told the court that he had lived in Ireland since 1995. He said he had been in Germany for a few weeks.

He told Judge McHugh that he was not on social welfare and does not claim social welfare in Germany.

In response to Garda White he said he supports himself bygetting money from his mother and his brothers and sisters.
Judge McHugh said he was refusing bail and deemed Carpaci to be “a flight risk”.

He remanded Carpaci in custody to appear before Cloverhill Court.
