Clondalkin men one step from title

CLONDALKIN RFC are one win away from capturing the Leinster League Division 2A title and, with it, promotion to 1B.

Indeed, an 85-0 trouncing of New Ross at the weekend coupled with the failure of closest rivals Cill Dara to secure a bonus point in their 12-0 victory over Portlaoise, means that Clondalkin just require a win at home against Railway Union in their final match to make certain of the title.

Niall Nolan ran in two trials for Clondalkin

The Gordon Park side was in no mood to take any prisoners on their trip to New Ross and refused to take their foot off the gas after having opened up a 35-0 lead by the halftime break.

In all they ran in 13 tries, Chris Jebb converting ten of them, with the backline dominating on the scoresheet.

Indeed, they accounted for all but two touchdowns with Niall Nolan inflicting huge damage on the left wing as he broke over the whitewash on no less than four occasions.

Club captain Mickey Russell chipped in two tries with centre Darren Madden and replacement scrum half Stephen Bracken also getting over.

Hooker Brian Doyle and Number 8 Paul McDermott accounted for the two tries registered by the Clondalkin forwards in a match that saw the team produce some delightful skip and loop moves while their handling on the day was superb.

Meanwhile, the Clondalkin seconds dug out a 27-10 victory over New Ross with Ali Collier and Stevie Cunningham among the try scorers.
