Clondalkin reschedule club’s 2020 GymFest for October

CLONDALKIN Gymnastics Club has rescheduled their major international GymFest for October in the National Basketball Arena.

Organisers were forced to postpone the second annual event from its original date on March 28 as a result of the Covid-19 threat.

Clondalkin gymnasts will have to wait until October to contest the club’s major 2020 Gymfest

The display competition caters for all floor disciplines, from acrobatics to artistic cheer and rhythmic and was set to involve no less than 450 gymnasts from all around Ireland, as well as from England and Scotland- more than double the amount of competitors who took part in the inaugural GymFest last year in Tallaght Leisure Centre.

Clondalkin’s own ‘Precision Display’ squad was also poised to take part and, as Ireland’s highest ranking display team following their silver medal win at the 2017 GFA World Championships in Norway, they would have been pushing for honours.

Indeed their feat three years also was hugely impressive given the fact that no less than 22 countries were represented  in the competition.

And they were hoping to put on another great show last month before the season was unceremon-iously shut down.

“A year’s planning had gone into this event, but we had to reschedule” said Clondalkin Gymnastics Club’s Julia Toomey. “ But we have the Arena booked for October so hopefully we’ll be able to run it then” she added.

Clondalkin gymnasts were also due to travel to Portugal for another major international gymfest, but they received word only last week that that competition had to be cancelled.

What’s more, the club is due to feature in festivals in Rathfarnham this summer and in Lucan in September, but it still remains to be seen if those events will go ahead.

“It’s a really strange situation to be in, but we’re telling our gymnasts to stay fit and come back ready” said Toomey.
