Colaiste Chilliain hurling joy
DUBLIN hurling is in a safe place after the thrilling schools’ junior final between Colaiste Chilliain from Clondalkin and Firhouse Community College.
However, it was Colaiste Chilliain who emerged victorious, winning out 1-20 to 1-13 to successfully defend the title with a string of late scores.
Half forward Daithí Mac an Ghallóglaigh was the hero of the hour for the winners, scoring seven points in total as he tormented the Firhouse defence throughout.
There were also fine performances from Daniel Mac an Bháird, Marc Ó Donnáin, Charlie Ó Cinnéide, Fiach Lupton, Donnacha Ó Deasúnaigh, Pádraig Ó Domhnaigh and Cilllian Ó Dúnaigh who played their part in the win.
Most of the Colaiste Chilliain squad play with Round Tower except Fiach Lupton who plays with Liffey Gaels.
Colaiste Chilliain were three points to the good at the break, however they did not pull away until the closing 10 minutes.
The second half started in a whirl wind fashion, with both teams’ defences proving difficult to break down.
The first 15 minutes of the second half was a real battle with outstanding moments of skill from both sides.
Darragh Fitzgerald and Fionn Murphy excelled for Firhouse, while Fiach Lupton deliveries and leadership caught the eye for Colaiste Chilliain.
On their way to the final, Colaiste Chilliain overcame Edmond Rice College and Confey College in the group stages.
The side went on to beat Colaiste Mhuire in the quarter-finals and Confey College in the semi-finals.
