Dazzling Christmas tree wins Echo competition

A BALLYFERMOT woman was delighted when she found out that her dazzling Christmas tree won The Echo’s annual Christmas tree competition this week.

Lisa Lawless, who lives in Oranmore with her husband Denis and their 12-year-old son Joshua, enjoys decorating the family tree every year.

Each year, she adds a new decoration to the tree, and has a penchant for old-style, classic Christmas tree decorations with a stylish festive flourish.

Lisa told The Echo: “I always go for an old-style way of decorating. It didn’t take long to do, it took around two hours, and there was no pattern to it. We try to have it up for the Toy Show every year.”

While Lisa takes great pride in decorating the Christmas tree every year, she said her husband and son assist by “fluffing up” the tree before she decorates it.

Lisa’s prize winning tree has a new decoration added each year.

Lisa’s son, Joshua, told The Echo: “The tree is amazing, it’s better than most of the trees I’ve seen.”

Lisa said that she was delighted when she received a call from The Echo on Monday, informing her that she’d won the Christmas tree competition and a €100 shopping voucher.

“It was a nice surprise, and a good start to Christmas week,” she said. “I’m not one for winning things, so it was a nice little surprise to get the call.”

When asked how she plans to spend her shopping voucher, Lisa said: “I’m not sure, but I’m sure my son will have an idea for how to spend it – we’ll treat ourselves to something.”
