Coláiste de hIde battle their way to Under 19 Dublin League success

COLÁISTE de hIde recently captured the Under 19 Boys Division Three Metro Dublin League title following a 4-2 victory over Castleknock College after extra time in this season’s decider in Greenogue.

Having dropped just two points in the whole campaign, the Tallaght side was confident going in to the game in which they took the lead when Kallum ó Ceallacháin - the youngest player on the pitch - demonstrated great composure to slot the ball home.

Castleknock were presented with the opportunity to restore parity after the halftime recess when awarded a penalty, but goalkeeper Jordan Mac Thomáis produced a superb save.

Still the northsiders persisted and levelled the match by way of beautifully placed free kick.

Despite some clear cut chances, neither team could serve up a winner during the close of regulation time.

Yet Coláiste de hIde again took the initiative early on in extra time when Conchúr ó Cróinín showed impressive speed and skill to finish off a great team move.

Tiarnan ó hAnluain then doubled their advantage before the break after which Castleknock threw everything they had at them, reducing their arrears.

Yet their hopes of a comeback were laid to rest in the dying minutes when Sean McManus punished them on the counter attack with a sublime finish from just past the halfway line after spotting that the Castleknock netminder had pushed up.

The victory marks the first time in more than 10 years that the school has secured silverware in soccer.
