Collins makes the move to Wolves

NATHAN Collins has completed his move from Burnley to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Republic of Ireland international defender and former Cherry Orchard schoolboy has penned a five-year deal with the Premier League outfit in what is Bruno Lage’s first new signing of the summer.

While the 21-year-old has moved for an undisclosed fee, reports suggest the deal is worth £25.5 million, which would make him the most expensive Irish player ever – Tallaght man, Robbie Keane having held that record after he was signed by Liverpool from Tottenham back in 2008.

Collins made the move to Burnley from Stoke City last summer, agreeing a four-year deal, but was strongly tipped to exit the club following their regelation last season.

He has enjoyed a great spell on the international front, scoring a sublime goal in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-1 draw away to Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League last month.

Pleased with club’s latest acquisition, Wolves Technical Director, Scott Sellars said: “We’ve looked at Nathan for a while and admired him, so we’re delighted to bring him to the football club.

“He’s a very talented young man – he’s only 21, has played international football and had a good season last year with Burnley.

“We think we’ve signed a player with a lot of potential, as well as being a very good footballer now,” he said.
