Collinstown players honoured
A LOCAL soccer club held its annual presentation of awards to its underage players last Thursday reports Stephen Farrell.
Collinstown FC had their Schoolgirls and Schoolboys Presentation in the Collinstown Sports Hall and such were the volume of awardees, that the club had to allocate separate time slots for two groups.
“From 6pm to 7.30pm we had the small group, which was for Academy to under 11’s and from 7.30 pm to 9 pm we had the big group, which was for under 12’s up to under 18’s,” said Stuart Hall, Chairman.
“Every child got a trophy, for under 12’s up to under 18’s there was a player of the year, as this is classed as competitive football and there was a merit player of the year at each age group,” said Stuart.
The main award on the night was The Sir Matt Carpenter Club Person of the year award.
“Ollie and Jacob Maxwell, who are two brothers in the club were this year’s winners,” said Stuart.
“The Managers handed out their individual team awards,” he added.
“The club would like to thank the volunteers and the coaches and the parents for their support as the club grows in 2024/’25,” said Stuart.
The club has 400 members at present.
On Saturday the club are holding the Sir Matt Carpenter Invitational tournament in Collinstown Sports Complex.
“Clubs that are friends of the club, that have been rivals of the club over the years have been invited.
“It’s a senior competition,” said Stuart.
