Comfortable victory for Lucan United Under14s

LUCAN United Girls Under 14 got their MGL game, with Balrath FC, over in double quick time in Airlie Heights, Lucan, on Sunday morning when they ran out comfortable 8-1 winners in this tie reports John Mooney.

Double hat-tricks for Amber Kilalee and Shauna Kavanagh was only part of the story, as the Lucan girls ticked all the boxes on the day.

You had to feel sorry for the visitors, but also praise them for their attitude, when conceding so many goals and with a touch more luck in front of goal might have added to their tally of one.

The home side came out flying and were 2-0 in front inside five minutes, as Kavanagh netted twice in as many minutes to set them on their way.

However, on 10 minutes, a mixup between the home sides Allison Combes and keeper Aoife Keenan presented Lilly Mulvany with an opportunity she wasn’t going to turn down, and the visitors were back in the game.

But that was as good as it got as just two minutes later it was 3-1, as Kilalee slotted home a centre from Zara Russell.

They had the bit between their teeth and you could sense that it was only going to get worse for the visitors, and before the half drew to a close the home side added another two, through Nora Kiss Kalo and Kilalee, to lead 5-1.

Minutes into the second half they reached a half dozen when Russell’s corner from the right hand side was was bundled into the goal by a defender, as they tried in vain to clear the danger.

Now, at that point, most sides might have packed up and left for home but the visitors battled on gamely despite the mounting score.

So, really, it was left to see who could net the first hat-trick and Kilalee delivered the goods to get one hand on the match ball, but Kavanagh was never going to be outshone on the day and bagged a third for herself as the clock ran down.
