Peamount share the spoils with Galway

On a brisk Saturday at PRL Park in Newcastle, Peamount United welcomed league leaders, Galway United to Dublin in a tense 0-0 draw in the Women’s League of Ireland Premier Division, reports Rory Merriman.

The result means Galway retain their unbeaten record and their position at the top of the league, while Peamount remain in fourth place.

Peamount , led by 2023 Manager of the Year James O’Callaghan, dominated the first half with aggressive attackingpress.

Ireland international Erin McLaughlin posed the biggest threat for Peamount, nearly converting a chance in the 23rd minute after latching onto an over-the-top ball from Karen Duggan.

However, her shot went just wide of the far post, leaving the scoreline unchanged.

Galway struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, with limited opportunities to threaten Peamount’s goal.

The closest they came to scoring was a volley effort from Lindsey McKey from outside the box, but the shot sailed wide of the right post.

As the halftime whistle blew, the teams went into the dressing rooms with the score still 0-0.

In the second half, both teams battled for control, but neither could create a clear-cut opportunity.

Peamount continued to push forward, while Galway’s solid defense, anchored by Eve Dossen, held firm.

Despite a few promising moments, the quality of finishing was lacking on both sides, leading to a goalless draw.

Galway’s Phil Trill, will be satisfied with a point for his women as they maintain their unbeaten streak, but O’Callaghan and Peamount will feel disappointed, given their early dominance and the missed chances to secure a victory.

With the shared spoils, Galway remains at the top of the league, while Peamount will aim to improve their finishing in the next match to climb higher on the table.
