Community encouraged to take part in the Citywest Fun Walk

THOSE working and living in Citywest are invited to become lunchtime heroes this June 1 by taking part in the sixth annual Citywest Fun Walk in aid of Barretstown.

Last year more than 400 people took to the streets of the Citywest business campus, with organisers hoping to break the 500 mark this year when the fun walk takes off on Thursday, June 1 at 1pm.

All of the money raised will go to Barrettstown, enabling the charity to continue supporting thousands of children and families affected by cancer and other serious illnesses through their programme of Therapeutic Recreation and their Hospital Outreach Programme.

Organised each year by a dedicated committee made up of employees from businesses throughout Citywest and its surrounding areas, the fun walk will start and finish at the DCU Ryan Academy – with the planned 4km route taking around 30 minutes to complete.

Supported by the Citywest Campus, the walk is a great opportunity for the community of Citywest to join forces for a good cause.

Registration for the event is €15, with 100 per cent of funds raised supporting Barretstown.

Pop-up registrations will also take place in larger businesses before the event to drive sign-ups and to make registration easier for workers.

Everybody taking part will receive a goody bag, ice-cream and treats, and there’s a super raffle this year – which includes prizes such as a TV, hotel getaway, a tablet and one year free Citywest gym membership.

Food after the walk will be provided by the Citywest Hotel, which has sponsored the event alongside other businesses such as Honda, GSK, Citywest Campus, Milish Foods, Celtic Careers, Astellas, Miele, Tomra, United Drug, Glanbia, Uniphar and Aspen.

Any other local businesses that would like to be a sponsor and help the fun walk reach its fundraising goal of €20K is encourage to get in touch.  For further details email caroline.dunne@barretstown.org or visit www.citywestfunwalk.com to register.
