Anyone with an elderly or vulnerable relative they think could be assisted by the Community Policing team is encouraged to contact Clondalkin Garda Station on 666 7600 or the Community Policing office on 6667642 or email Clondalkin_Community@garda.ie.

They cover Clondalkin, Newcastle, Rathcoole and Saggart.

Lucan Community Policing Unit made a similar notification and urge people to contact them by phone 666 7300, 6667320 or email Lucan.community@garda.ie.

Independent Councillor Eoin Ó Broin welcomed the move and other supports by different groups and organisations.

“I am delighted that existing institutions such as the community gardai, the Order of Malta, Alone, and the South Dublin Volunteering Centre are providing a local response for those self isolating in various ways, such as delivering medicines from the chemist.”

Meanwhile, on Monday, Chief Superintendent Finbarr Murphy welcomed eight new gardai to the DMR West Division.

The new recruits will be stationed in Clondalkin, Lucan, Finglas and Blanchardstown, where they will be attached to the Community Policing units.

Chief Superintendent Murphy said: “These new garda members will assist the local Community policing units working in the community.

We are asking people to contact their local gardai if they know someone who is living alone or without supports so that we can check on their welfare and make sure everyone is safe throughout the weeks ahead.”
