Community recycling for Christmas in aid of LauraLynn
The estates in the Ballycullen area have united to light up Christmas for the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice by recycling batteries.
The community project is being led by the five residents associations in Daletree, Woodstown Village, Oakdale, Ferncourt and Beechdale – with all residents encouraged to be part of the WEEE Ireland and LauraLynn battery recycling campaign.
With more than 1,600 homes in the area, the drive hopes to raise funds for LauraLynn while bringing the community together and helping the environment.
Residents have teamed up with schools in the area, the Park Community Centre and Spar in Woodstown and Old Court, which will act as collection points for WEEE reycling boxes when filled with batteries.
Aileen Stack, of the Daletree Residents Association, told The Echo: “This is the area’s charity drive for Christmas and there’s a big push locally to light up LauraLynn for Christmas by recycling batteries.
“We’re big on being green in the area and this iniative is a great way to get the community working together for a better environment.
“It’s also teaching the kids about recycling.”
She added: “This is not the first recycling initiative we have done –and we hope to make it a regular thing.”
Aileen also stressed that the initiative is encouraging people to shop local for Christmas, and to support their local shops – espcially when buying new batteries for the Christmas season.
