Construction commences on the €2.8 million library

WORK commenced on the construction of the new €2.8 million Castletymon Library this week, with builders beginning work on the site on Tuesday.
As previously reported in The Echo, the original Castletymon Library closed in December 2017 after South Dublin County Council’s lease on the premises ended, with the local authority choosing not to seek a lease renewal as they claimed the building was “unsuitable for occupation”.

Since then, a number of the groups who used to use the library are now being facilitated in St Aengus’s Community Centre and a mobile library has been serving the area, and will continue to do so until the new library building is open.
The €2.8 million cost of the development has been ringfenced in South Dublin County Council’s 2019-2021 Capital Programme.
Independent councillor for Tallaght Central, Mick Duff, told The Echo: “Work started on Tuesday at the site of the new Castletymon Library, construction workers are now on site.
“It’s great news for the community. The majority of residents are delighted that work has commenced.”
