A SUBSTANTIAL planning application for the construction of 184 apartments as part of a mixed-use residential and commercial development in the Cookstown Industrial Estate has been lodged with South Dublin County Council.

According to the site notice erected, the planning provides for a total of 184 apartments across three separate blocks, two commercial units, a community room and a crèche, alongside a landscaped courtyard and an underground, 153-space car park.

The apartments, which include studios, one-bed, two-bed and three-bed units, will be housed across one six-storey and two eight-storey blocks – with the commercial units, community room and crèche all located at ground-floor level.

The planning application, which has been lodged by Pyrmont Property Developments, also seeks the demolition of an industrial unit to pave the way for the mixed-used development on Second Avenue, Cookstown Industrial Estate.

Speaking to The Echo, Tallaght Central councillor Charlie O’Connor (Fianna Fáil) said: “While it’s far too early to gauge public reaction to this planning application, I think people are thinking that the developer is brave in building so many apartments so close to Tallaght Cross and Tallaght village where there are a lot of empty apartments.

“However, this is a prime location close to the Luas, schools and Tallaght Hospital, factors which I’m sure the developer has considered.”
