iVosta integrates its talent for Africa Day

CLONDALKIN-based volunteer group iVosta (Integrated Volunteering Skills and Training Agency) took part in the recent Africa Day celebrations at Phoenix Park.

The annual commemoration in Farmleigh estate celebrates African culture, and is organised by Irish Aid.

Alpha Gassama, from Clondalkin, established iVosta in 2009 when he was a resident in Mosney Direct Provision accommodation centre to help fellow asylum seekers integrate into Irish society.

A co-founder of Clondalkin Tidy Towns, when he was moved to the Towers Hotel, Alpha states iVosta is “proven model for integration in Ireland.”

The group encourages migrants to take part in volunteer projects within their host communities, to foster a sense of belonging and social inclusion.

iVosta is registered at a national level operating in three different pillars – environment, education and social activities.

Alpha said: “iVosta is recognised and respected by Volunteer Ireland, authorities in South Dublin County Council and Dublin City Council, and is hoping to expanding its activities further, national and European. I want to thank all volunteers for their help.”

Last month, Alpha was nominated for a Dublin Good Citizen Awards 2016 by a resident in Phibsborough, for his contribution in setting up Phibsborough Tidy towns.
