Coronavirus: Hospital staff ‘are working around the clock’

TALLAGHT University Hospital has deferred all elective inpatient, day case and outpatient activity unless deemed essential or time critical.

On Wednesday, March 17, the hospital limited activity to essential services only, with patients of the hospital asked not to attend unless they have been contacted directly to do so.

In a statement to The Echo, the hospital said that it regrets the impact these measures will have on patients but that the move is necessary to deal with the current Covid-19 situation.

Lucy Nugent, CEO of Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) said: “Our staff across every part of the hospital are working around the clock to deal with the Covid-19/Coronavirus.

“They will continue to care for those infected, and to protect and care for other patients in the hospital.

“We are employing all infection control measures and every effort is being made to manage and control the spread of the virus.

“We appreciate that this is a difficult time for patients and their families and we are working to provide services in a different way where possible.

“This includes virtual clinics (telephone call) for some OPD [Out Patient Department] appointments, these patients will be contacted by medical staff.”

Visiting restrictions continue at Tallaght University Hospital

-In the interest of safety TUH is reducing footfall into the hospital. Only visitors allowed are visiting loved ones who are receiving end of life care and the parents of children who are currently inpatients.

-Under no circumstance are children allowed visit the hospital

According to the hospital, these visitor restrictions are being put in place for public and patient health reasons and to minimise the possible spread of infections.
