Council to review future development of Weston
SOUTH Dublin County Council will be reviewing ancillary uses at Weston Aerodrome in Lucan, including potential economic development opportunities for the County.
This follows news that the aerodrome will play host to Annie Mac and Liam Gallagher as part of the Samhain Festival, a one-day festival that takes place in the lead-up to Halloween.
The review is part of the council’s review of the land use planning framework for the future development and operation of the aerodrome.
Lucan Independent Councillor Guss O’Connell told The Echo: “The aerodrome has been there for quite a number of years, and it predates the development around it.
“It has grown from being a very private airfield to being one that now has a very sophisticated operation.
“I have met with the board of Weston with some of my colleagues and I think, in a general sense, we want to see development happen in a way that doesn’t intrude on the residents.”
“After the discussion I had with them I’d be confident that they’re a respectable company who will work with elected officials and representatives in the area.”
Cllr O’Connell added that the primary economic development opportunities at the site will be in relation to aviation.
Public consultation on the development will take place until Thursday August 24 at 4pm inclusive, and information can also be viewed at a number of locations in the county.
These locations include Lucan Library, Clondalkin Library, The John Jennings Library (Stewarts Care), Palmerstown Library Digital Hub, the Civic Offices, Clondalkin and County Hall, Tallaght.
