Crawford’s U18s shine in Spain

REPUBLIC of Ireland Under 18 manager Jim Crawford will be well pleased with the performance of his side in their Invitational Tournament in Spain.

The Tallaght man oversaw his side’s impressive run in the competition that featured victories over Belgium and Nether-lands either side of a 3-1 loss to England.

Shamrock Rovers’ Kian Clarke lined out in goal for Ireland in all three matches, the first of which saw them beat Belgium 2-1.

Against England, Ireland took the lead through Adam Idah only to ship three goals in the closing 15 min-utes as they carded their first and only loss of the competition.

Indeed, they bounced back strongly with a 1-0 victory over Netherlands, Idah accounting for the only score of the match.

Delighted with his side’s showing at this tournament, Crawford said “The performances this week will cause Under-19 Head Coach Tom Mohan some headaches. A lot of the players performed to a very high standard.

“Those performances will probably affect our side in March, as a lot of the players will be with the Under-19s for the Elite Round. I’m delighted for them. We want to be pushing on our best players,” he stressed.
